We awarded Bloober Team’s brilliant PS5 remake of Konami’s iconic survival horror Silent Hill 2 a 9/10 because we genuinely believe it’s one of the strongest games of the year. At the time of writing, the title currently commands an 87 on Metacritic, suggesting the rest of the industry agrees. But not everyone is happy about the high scores!
Earlier today, Wikipedia was forced to lock the game’s page after Internet trolls tried to rewrite the release’s review scores – literally. A screenshot shared on Reddit shows our score edited down from 9/10 to 3/10 – with other sites like Eurogamer.net and IGN also having their scores downgraded.
It’s not exactly clear why this has happened. One theory is that the game is being targeted for altering the clothing and facial features of some female characters. The remake was also the subject of intense scrutiny for the longest time, due to the original’s status as a classic game. Whatever the case, it’s ridiculous.
Fortunately, the original scores have been restored, and, as mentioned, the Wikipedia page has been locked to prevent further unnecessary edits.
Silent Hill 2 launched this weekend in early access, so many people are already enjoying the psychological adventure on PS5. If you’re one of those people, or you’re planning to pick up the title next week, then do have a gander at our Silent Hill 2 guide, which can help you solve the game’s puzzles and find its collectibles.

If you feel personally attacked by the successful reviews of any videogame, it’s probably time to use the internet to look for some kind of professional help. We can all be better than this.
@Nei There is no cure for what they have.
Or they could be trying to hurt the game because it’s not available to play on their platform.
Humans are really awesome.
Great job humans. 👏🏻
Ahh the internet.
Should have to pass tests to be allowed to use it.
First question being - are you a f*cktard?
My guess at the reasons… some people are green with envy 🤢
Perfectly reasonable behaviour of course, nothing unhinged going on here.
On another note, this article says it was published 'Tomorrow 00:15' I just thought that was amusing. Quit the time travelling Sammy.

The beauty of this is that it led me to learn all about the Silent Hill Circumcision-wiki altering debacle from a few years back. Not only priceless but spiritually-affirming that a new/remake in the same series also has wiki-altering shenanigans:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7-HrspiKfY
The funny thing is that Wikipedia picks up on this stuff almost instantly and then your IP’s banned. And yet we were told constantly growing up never to use Wikipedia for research in school. Now we have AI if you want laughable disinformation.
What a healthy and open-minded community.
Only played the first hour and so far Blooper have done an excellent job, the visuals are stunning while still keeping the atmosphere intact. Hopefully this is a turning point for Blooper.
These people are dumb af. Why would you even waste the time it took to do that?!
Removed - trolling/baiting
Maybe it is being targeted for no other reason than ''trolls are gonna troll''.
Not everything has to have an agenda or a conspiracy behind it - even in these politically charged times in which we live. For some people, it really is just a bit of fun to ruin someone else's day.
@LifeGirl there has been a lot of discourse around the release.
You only need half a brain cell in this case to realise it’s not just been done for ‘funsies’ by a troll
@Orpheus79V They've done this multiple times before, even though you can access it before its officially listed publish time, likely due to that time being busier and if their's notifications (I don't know if there is for when a new article comes) then you would see multiple at a time. But frankly I do not know
Being a Playstation console exclusive probably has something to do with it.
Haters gonna be haters .word up son
Maybe they should find the handgun
I was one of the people who didnt think bloober could pull it off but im happy I was proven wrong. Why are we dunking on success now XD
lol this is hilarious 😂 quality news tbh
I've never understood why people even waste their time doing this. You changed the review scores on Wiki, great! That doesn't somehow erase the real review scores from existence.
Some people seems to get so emotionally attached to stuff and makes it so personal that they just can't take the L without making a stink.
All most of us really want are good games, so that this is a satisfactory remake of a revered game should be a win for everyone.
Done by one angry child who couldn't digest its success 😆😆😆😆
People....they're the worst.
Some people need to step away from the keyboard and get a life. Pathetic.
Everything about the game looks good. Sadly for it, its JRPG month for me and wont be getting to it anytime soon. Itll be a 2025 game for me
Uh oh… which character did they gender bend? Or make (looks around, whispers)black…?
I was skeptic if Bloober gonna nailed it but it seems they did. Even Max Derrat praised the remake from his 4 hours playing time and he's a longtime SH fans that very critical with early trailer.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=K2SDEM8ulEQ
But to go this far, i think this troll is not a SH fans.
@AhmadSumadi Thankfully none of them
It's pretty sad that it came to this all because of people who couldn't handle the positive reception of the remake.
some people have too much time on their hands , they need to go outside more.
People nowadays can be so weird. Are they getting paid for doing that? Or just for dumb fun?
I misread that title as “Idiot trolls”. Still works
This doesn't happen like this for other Sony exclusives, that's usually just review bombing. This seems more personal so I'm willing to bet it's more on the female cosmetic changes than Microsoft fans.
Regardless of any console biases anyone who mislabels or marks down a game simply for it's platform is no real gamer. Respect the developers who made the game and keep personal bias be it platform or political out of reviews
Removed - trolling/baiting
The best part about being "a real gamer" is that you can be miserable about an endless amount of things and never find the time to actually enjoy gaming. People can loose at life so bad.
Ok I know “review bombing” is a thing that happens all the time and people are awful these days as humans try to extinct themselves, but in this instance we are talking about a Wiki page that was likely changed by 1 single person, correct, so all the “plural” talk about “trolls” and “people” in this case is incorrect, or am I reading it wrong?
Feel free to correct me, I’ve no skin in this game.
Since when are Wikipedia users every trustworthy or edit things? Most seems fair but yeah the odd ones come in. Even on Fandom it varies too. Those that make fun and write bad altered stuff for fun.
Locking it though hmm that's fair. But yeah if it has enough info on it then by all means it's done nothing more to edit.
Silent Hill fans and getting a break or just those salting it isn't coming to platforms. Either way. Sigh.
They vary/accounts are easy enough to set up. Players can hate it but 'accuracy' over feelings. I know how it turned out and I'm not even the audience but they want to alter history due to them hating it/bandwagons, leave it to the sales not the reviews.
Many of my favourites suck now I just move on, my wallet and words won't change anything if the staff/publishers have made it clear that's the vision of the game, see you later then.
I disagree with reviews sure on specific things but not enough to alter them on Wikipedia or alter Metacritic or anything that far, sigh some people need to chill.
I've had to alter/have unremoved things due to bias of people.
Had to deal with the hate for the Fabric modloader (Minecraft fan modding) because oh Forge is so great. On a wiki page and comment sections it's just a bad troll that went for 2+ years then the project page went nah cut comments entirely.
I do my modloader research and know at least like 7 (Modloader, Forge that is a fork of it XD changed over the years but still, Meddle a snapshot one, Liteloader, Rift, Fabric, Quilt, like I do my research and wasn't even around for early modding) but they have an emotional moment/sports moments and alter details or troll comment because of pointless hatred.
At least with fan modding it's a case of well toxic community/leadership among mod authors so they made their own modloader/game engine equivalent logic I guess. No money involved really just not code/APIs they'd like to see added, gave up and made their own with the APIs they wanted, sure saw similar mods or similar Mod Jams/Fests and so on but eh it's nice I guess the new then just the repeats but oh well, with company staff separating it's more a job on the line and such and if they get enough staff to leave and form a new company. With players being annoying and things they can't change it happens.
Fans just don't get it and just play games but go wah we don't like this. They don't care about the situation they just want simplicity, consistency, even if it takes like 1 minute to do and minor differences and 1 thing to rule them all logic about it. XD But it doesn't work that way.
Learn the behind the scenes, understand what makes it better or worse and deal with it. I supported both and did my part marketing each of them for a time and do my wikis now just in my own time. I understood the behind the scenes and I just did promo for both anyways. I didn't care. I knew what projects they were working on and revealed them whenever ready. I wasn't part of the main group or anything but it was cool getting an eye into things.
They don't know and are modern version self entitled one sided types, when the wiki I was putting it on had expanded to more sides of modding not it's limited scope it used to have.
So like PS/Xbox they go eh came first, eh is better, and act like childish PC users.
Come on out, Mikami-san, we know it's you.

@Slidebomb What an embarrassing post.
@Nei Just go to 4chan and see if that people have any chance of recovery.
They act like animals, they use videogames like a meaning of life.
@Slidebomb I believe you're probably a troll, am I right?
@B_Lindz Please, don't blame the Silent Hill community. We are loving the game. The sub on reddit are just positive comments.
Those people are coming from chan/gaming foruns. They don't play videogames and every game has some "woke sh*t" like they say.
AGAIN: This is not coming from the Silent Hill community!
@UltimateOtaku91 yup.
"You are telling me this game is good? Sony is paying (a part) for it, it should be trash!" lol
@Optimus They're definitely entertaining, especially the ones with Stage 4 anti-woke virus.
@Nepp67 I think you're missing the point of sarcasm... which potentially makes you problematic?
I saw this indie dev on twitter that yesterday was like "Can't wait for the mods do this this this and this so I can touch the game. If you don't like it grow up" The dude only made that one post about the game, no one was arguing with him, he was basically fighting in his head LOL.
I will never share the necessity of SOME people to look down the new just because it's different with what they experienced in the past, specially when the new is so well done like this remake but I understand. Their lives never got better than those days so they have to hold to nostalgia as hard as they can.
Ahhh ofc. People getting mad
It was just one guy according to the revision history.
Ahhh Wikipedia. A great tool in the right hands but as seen in this instance it's used by tools or a tool..I use Wikipedia but I don't take everything I read as verbatim. I did edit the dario argento page as there was some very misleading information regarding the re release of tenebrae insisting it was fully uncut when it actually had over 5 secs still removed and a few other little discrepancies on other movies..suspiria being another factually incorrect entry.
I find it funny that all of the scores are atrociously low yet IGN gives it a 6/10.
@nessisonett TIL the word “disinformation”. Handy addition to my lexicon, much obliged!
What a sad thing to do. It’s just speculation of course that it is because of the desexualisation of the female characters (probably based on troubling modern views on people who disagree with censorship/whatever you want to call it), but whatever the reason, trying to deny reality is just ridiculous.
If it is the reason, while a very legitimate complaint, I’d suggest these people put their efforts into a more useful way to combat it, because this is not going to change public opinion.

They weren't exactly subtle about it. Not sure who would fall for this, I'd like to say no one but that's probably a bit optimistic.
I'm actually a fan of Blooper team games, Observer is a classic in my opinion, and I enjoyed their other games, but this seems like a step up for them, I'll get round to playing it at some point.

@Vault_Mcfly And also the anti-gaming, far right freaks on muskrat social. I was genuinely shocked SH2R got targeted like this, but meh, let the trolls cry harder. I'm just waiting to get my hands on the game. I always believed in this project from its initial reveal trailer, and I'm glad my faith was rewarded and that the haters failed. 😍
@thefourfoldroot1 is it a legitimate complaint though? "This character isn't sexy enough for me. I like my women reduced to a single defining aspect that's catered specifically towards my demographic."
I told you that the gaming community is the worst.
@Northern_munkey Problem is the bar is low now that it's shocking. Also respect and tolerance for others seems to go lower and lower. It looks like the human race is devolving.
@Flaming_Kaiser couldn’t have said it better myself.
The abysmal brigade from the polls on here have moved on to Wikipedia. What's in their sites next? Trying to take over the world?
@AgentMantis Knowing which character most of the complaints are about and the nature of the traumatic events that define that character's appearance in the original game, just makes the entire "controversy" even more perverse.
I'm not sure if it is ever a legitimate complaint - I can't think of anything - but in this case it absolutely isn't.
Anyone using Wikipedia for anything more than opinions and entertainment deserves what they get
It's the equivalent of tabloid newspapers, the best part is people link it as a source of factual information
Clearly Xbots
@ZeroSum you think wrong.
All sorts were changed not just push square.
Try again!
People who do this kind of thing are pathetic little infants who throw tantrums for fun. Willing to bet a high number of neckbeards are responsible because they are mad that no one will ever touch them..
@Flaming_Kaiser yup, unfortunately gaming community has become just as entitled as a certain other group of people 🙄
Removed - trolling/baiting
Wait.?.?.?
People still use Wikipedia to check out games?
That's literally the last place I even bother going for anything.
Last resort.
You know when you think the world can't get anymore insane and peoples common sense can't get anymore low. You then read about thus and think nope, people can.
I find history fascinating and even more fascinating that people 1000s years ago wanted to leave a reminder to the future of what they did.
Now we live in the age of altering our own stories and wiping and distorting our own.
What a time to be alive hahaha
Dumb basement dwellers with nothing better to do. People used to be happy when games did well…
@MatthewJP yeah, that was an old misclick. It adds games to your game list when you click on polls. I actually forgot to clean those up since I don’t wanna harm the average ratings so I appreciate reminding me.
Edit: I’ve removed them.
There really are some pathetic people out there. The game isn't even put so clearly they haven't played it anyways to judge. And it's not like this review was an outlier, most people gave it a great score. I've listened to people such as Roger from Kimda funny, who has never played a Silent hill before and he loved it and said its one of his favourite games of the year
I know it’s a video game, but this a microcosm of the times we live in. Unhinged people unsatisfied with reality and so they try to rewrite it to suit their narrative.
@AgentMantis
I haven’t played this specific game so I can’t comment. But I would say, generally, yes, it’s a legitimate complaint when a person’s (man or woman’s) sexuality is removed for no reason other than a vocal minority finding it disagreeable. I’m not sure it has happened in this game, but it is a general problem yes.
@thefourfoldroot1 it isn’t a problem. Re-read what @AgentMantis wrote again.
@Yousef-
Whether it’s a problem is a matter of personal priority, but I’m not sure what you are referring to in what he said to me. It was a hypothetical statement made to ridicule a particular position nobody was taking. Perhaps you could elaborate?
Troll back.. give it an 11/10 😀
It is a shame though, I wonder if they've gone and done it to other games on wiki too.
It’s one thing to complain, it’s another when you have time on your hands to change a wiki page. Usually I’m the type to disagree with outfit changes but I don’t think Maria looks bad. I also don’t think her head looks bad either. Some people just want things to fail so they can be “right”.
IGN 6/10, that's hysterical. Whoever did this knows what's up.
@AhmadSumadi from what I've seen they just look less ill , maybe its a disgruntled doctor, who thought that no way would anyone look like that, in a town with such spooky shenanigans.
Lol bizarre, just why? Does somebody really hate the game?
My god people really are pathetic
Although I think giving a 20 year old game with a new coat of paint a 9/10 was a bit silly, trying to change the scores on wiki is pointless.
@Cloud39472 I have no idea why they bothered, but the remake train needs to stop and the industry needs to start thinking for themselves again instead of mining the depths of moria.
We will get to the point that 187 ride or die gets remade and no one wants that.
@Optimus I hope so too. It'll save me A LOT of money.
Same old, same old weird practice of fanboyism, and people claiming 'wokeness'
Removed - trolling/baiting; user is banned
@Victor_Meldrew xbox fanboys i guess
It's highly likely fanboys green with envy. They are always calling PS game's like Spider-Man 2 for example crap etc. it is pretty nuts. Definitely picking it up probably just after lunch.
Just beggars belief. If anyone responsible is an adult, then they’ve got some problems to work out and it doesn’t involve this game.
And funnily enough, life carries on as if nothing has happened.
@Cloud39472 Why, what original IP have we had worth playing this generation?
@DanteDevilHunter Spiderman 2 was crap. It was the second pile of crap just behind Horizon 2 that I didn't play to full completion because of how crap it actually was.
Putting aside the sheer volume of bugs the game had on launch, which should be unheard of in a first party title with a 200 million budget, the story was an utter mess and the side missions were literally the most soul destroying garbage I have ever encountered.
The silent hill fandom is very petty
You reap what you sow.
You just know the losers who did this are the sort of people who use phrases like "go woke go broke". Sad.
@Flaming_Kaiser Eh. Human history is nothing but a non-stop avalanche of hate, bigotry, atrocity, etc, etc.
We're not devolving, humanity has always been like this.
The crime is that humans are the one species on this planet capable of self reflection, of being able to look at their own behavior, thinking about it and making a decision to do something else. Do something better.
People aren't devolving. They're actively choosing to refuse to evolve to something better.
I suppose not just knee jerk submitting to your basic animal instincts is too much an ask for many people. Comes with low intelligence
@Tevor humans are capable of incredible love, compassion and understanding. In our own lives people like that far outnumber those who are not. And if that's not the case maybe that person is one of those who is evil. So don't be so hard on humans. Clearly we are more benevolent than we are bad.
@Fishnpeas I would agreed that the remake train for PS4 games especially for the ones that still looks good needs to be stop.
But remake for a two decade old PS2 game is fair, especially with Silent Hill series has been dead and buried for more than a decade. A good remake could revive the series again and also bring new audiences / young gamers to try one of the best survival horror series.
And there's plenty original IP that worth playing from this generation, such as:
etc etc
New IP and remake can be exist side by side.
Is it OK if I wait for user reviews, I like to see what the people who actually buy the games think.
With the review bombing, last if us 2 backlash as they assumed Abby was trans and other petty stuff that's getting reported it makes you ashamed to be a gamer.
Seems there is a large amount of horribly petty gamers out there with too much time on their hands and nothing else going on in their lives. To paraphrase Buzz lightyear. 'You're a sad sad little group....and you have my pity'
Not sure why anyone should care that review scores were temporarily changed by a troll on Wikipedia, but Push Square loves to get the comment section riled up about culture war stuff whenever the opportunity arises, so here we are I guess.
If there was any censorship/prudish reimagining going on with this remake, I must have missed it. The main female character has a different outfit I think, but the original one was pretty garish, and she still looks normal. If they had redesigned her with a Star Wars Outlaws-style face, I could see there being some complaining...
@PuppetMaster How many of those are first party titles?
That is what I'm getting at...
@RedRiot193 If you don’t want to play great games because of idiotic culture wars, it’s your loss.
@Tevor Can't agree more with you. It's a pity with even things like religion people still massacre each other. You would think people would come together and be better.
@riceNpea People get more efficient at killing each other that part evolves. Maybe it's because you see all the horrors of the world all the time. The older I get the more horrors i see unfold.
@Optimus how? I save money for more important things? And if I buy them on pc I can usually mod that nonsense out. And by then it'll be on sale too. Or I just dont get it. Options are great 👍
@Flaming_Kaiser people have always been efficient at killing. Difference is we can now do it at a far larger scale. And yet we haven't wiped ourselves out, where as in the past humans commented genocide against other tribes and nations frequently. We are more civilised, which is to our credit. There's no natural reason for us to be civilised, we've done that because we recognise that working together is more beneficial. Let's not overlook the miracle that is our society that spans the entire globe.
@riceNpea I have to disagree the only reason we don't use weapons of mass destruction that much is because we know it will come back. We still shut down villages and let them starves, mortars landmines, attack hospitals, schools. Lets agree to disagree on this point. Even the rights of females are being turned in Western society.
@Flaming_Kaiser what a female is is being corrupted too so I'd have to agree with you there
@riceNpea I hope im wrong that the human race is worth saving. But in the current state i could understand a reset.
@Flaming_Kaiser 👍people are fine. Our system of Government needs a reset. It's corrupt to the core and captured by commercial interests.
@ Kanji-Tatsumi Chumplings and the far-right are indeed truly the deranged ones, lol. 😂 Still buying his watches, bibles, his crypto grift, etc. Deranged.
But it's not just exclusively that type of person, as many on the far-right despise video games and the gamers who enjoy the hobby; I could buy a brand new copy of SH2 if a had a quarter for all the times those losers have attacked me for being a gamer.
Having a die-hard obsession over an individual or object; that is derangement syndrome. Previously it was Bush; you can look up clips online of far-right pundits uttering "BDS". Maga has been using that incorrectly for nearly a decade. Its so funny to me, lol. 😂
